FAQ FOR DIFFERENTLY ABLED CANDIDATES
- Who is eligible to take the test under the Differently Abled category?
As per the “Persons with Disability Act, 1995”, candidate qualifies to be a Differently Abled (DA). candidate if s/he suffers from any of the listed disabilities, to the extent of not less than 40% as certified by a medical authority. Following are the categories defined by IIM for DA candidates:
Low Vision/Blindness
Hearing Impairment
Locomotor Disability/ Cerebral Palsy.
- What are testing assistive devices?
Testing assistive devices (TA devices). also known as technical aids are designed to directly enable people with disabilities to perform a particular task successfully.
- Which are the acceptable means of testing assistance that I can use/bring to the test center?
The approved means of testing assistance that you may select on the application form are as follows:
Testing Assistance Applicable for Arranged by Abacus - (Without Calculator) Visually Impaired Candidate Hearing Aid Hearing Impairment Candidate Wheel Chair Locomotor Disability/ Cerebral Palsy Candidate Magnifying Screen Visually Impaired Test Center Scribe/Reader Visually Impaired / Cerebral Palsy Candidate
- Will the testing assistance be provided to me directly at the test centre?
Apart from the request for a magnifying screen, which will be arranged by the test centre, all other approved means of testing assistance including abacus, hearing aids, wheelchair, Scribe/reader, needs to be arranged by you.
- I am a DA candidate with low vision/blindness/cerebral palsy. What special accommodation will be provided to me on the test day.
Candidates whose disability relates to Low Vision/Blindness/Cerebral Palsy will be allowed to bring a scribe during the test. In such cases, you will be provided with a time extension accommodation.
- What will be the time extension given to me?
Candidates with Scribe requirement will be scheduled for the test with extended time. Therefore, the total time for the test under special accommodations will be increased from 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes. The above stated time is inclusive of the 15 minutes tutorial time.
- What is the eligibility criteria for a scribe/reader?
The scribe must fulfil the following criteria:
Is not a family member or a friend.
Is not involved in any academic tutoring or preparation for the test to be administered.
Has not completed 19 years of age as of October 31, 2009.
Has academic qualification lower than that of the candidate.
Note: A scribe will not be permitted to assist a candidate in case the above criteria are not met.
- Do I have to fill a form to request for a Scribe/Reader.
Yes. Prometric CAT Candidate Care support team will forward the “Scribe/Reader Certification for DA Candidates” document to you via email in the first week of October 2009. The form is available on CAT website as well. You need to take good printout of the form and send the duly filled-in form to Prometric along with the age certificate of the scribe, no later than October 15, 2009, at:

- What is the testing date for DA candidates?
All DA Candidates will be scheduled to test on December 3, 2009 in selected testing centres.
- Where can I register for the CAT 2009 test?
The DA candidates will go to https://iim.prometric.com to begin their registration process.
- Where do I mail my DA certificate for approval?
DA candidates will need to write their voucher number and the serial number on the DA certificate and mail it to:

- From where can I obtain the voucher?
The voucher can be obtained from selected AXIS Bank outlets from Wednesday, 9 September 2009 to Thursday, 1 October 2009.
- While registering online under DA category, will I myself be able to schedule a test?
While filling the application form on the website, in case you have selected “Yes” for the Special Accommodations category, you will not be able to proceed to schedule a test and complete the registration. In such cases, you will be scheduled by the Prometric CAT Candidate Care support team and will be informed of the scheduled date, time and location via email and/or phone.
Note: You will be informed of the confirmed appointment details in the first week of October, after the registration window closes.
- I am scheduled to take the CAT 2009 under the DA category. Will I be allowed to reschedule the test?
No. A Candidate scheduled under the DA category cannot reschedule the test. You can only take the test on the specified date, time and location.
- What are the identification documents required to be carried to the test centre?
Candidate will need to bring the following identification documents on the test day:
CAT 2009 Admit Card
Voucher
A valid document as proof of SC/ST eligibility (if applicable).
One photo identification such as Driver’s licence, Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, College ID, Employee identification card, or a notarized Affidavit with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth and residential address.
Similar photo identification for scribe of a DA candidate (if applicable).
Note: You will have to store all other personal items at the test centre at your own risk. Please do not bring any other items to the test centre, as they are not permitted into the testing centre.
